The Clash of Titans: Babar's Legacy vs Hyderabad's Fairytale — PSL 11 Final Prediction
🏏 The atmosphere tonight — Gaddafi Stadium is alive
I am going to be honest with you just thinking about the stadium tonight gives me goosebumps. The whole PSL season was played in empty stands. No crowd, no noise, no energy. And now, for this final, the Prime Minister himself gave permission for full public attendance. 27,000 fans are going to be inside Gaddafi Stadium tonight.
Think about what that means. The trumpets and drums in the stands. The yellow Zalmi flags and the green Kingsmen scarves all mixed together. The bright floodlights making the outfield look like daylight. The smell of food from the stalls outside. The noise gets so loud that the players can barely hear each other. This is not just a cricket match. This is a celebration. And playing in that kind of pressure, under those lights, in a final that is a test of nerves as much as skill.
🏏How both teams got here — two very different stories
Peshawar Zalmi had a clean and strong run all season. They won 8 out of 10 group games. They finished at the very top of the table with 17 points. Nobody surprised them. Then in the Qualifier, Babar Azam walked out and hit 103 runs off just 59 balls. Islamabad United were beaten by 70 runs. Zalmi went straight to the final. Simple. Dominant. Calm.
Now Hyderabad Kingsmen this is the story of the whole tournament. They lost their first four games in a row. Four! People were writing them off completely. I honestly thought they were done too. But then something changed. Glenn Maxwell played the best T20 innings of his last 40 matches. Saim Ayub found his form. And their bowlers especially Hunain Shah became really dangerous in the last overs.
They won 7 of their last 8 matches. They knocked out Multan Sultans. Then in Eliminator 2, they needed to defend just 6 runs off the last over against Islamabad United. Hunain Shah bowled that over and took a wicket. Hyderabad won by 2 runs. Just 2 runs! A brand new team, in their very first PSL season, are now in the final. That is honestly one of the best stories in PSL history.
Pitch and weather — what the conditions say tomorrow night?
The pitch at Gaddafi is really good for batting. It is flat, the bounce is true, and the ball comes on to the bat nicely. Spinners do not get much help in the first ten overs. The average first innings score this season here has been around 188. So batting first, a team can expect to score somewhere between 185 and 200.
But here is the key thing dew starts to settle on the ground from about over 12 onwards. When the ball gets wet from the dew, spin bowling becomes very hard. The bowler cannot grip the ball properly. This is a huge advantage for the team that is chasing. So tonight, winning the toss and choosing to bowl first could actually be the smartest decision. The captain who chases gets the dew on his side.

How the game will be played — phase by phase
The first 6 overs — the powerplay:
- Zalmi's opening pair of Mohammad Haris and Babar Azam is the best powerplay combination in this tournament. They have been scoring around 55 runs in the first 6 overs on average. They look for width outside off stump and punish anything full and straight. Very hard to stop when they are both in form.
- For Hyderabad, Saim Ayub is the danger man at the top. He hits hard from ball one and is especially good against pace bowling in the powerplay. Not always consistent, but on his day he can change a game in the first 6 overs alone.
Overs 7 to 15 — the middle overs, where this game will be won or lost:
- This is where Sufiyan Muqeem becomes the most important player on the field. He has taken 21 wickets this season at an average of just 14. He bowls just outside off stump, gets the ball to grip, and sets up batters beautifully in the middle overs. He is the kind of bowler who takes wickets when the game is close.
- Hyderabad's answer to Muqeem is Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell is one of the only batters in the world who can completely take a spinner apart reverse sweep, switch hit, clearing his front leg and hitting over the top. The battle between Muqeem and Maxwell is the biggest match-up of this entire final. Whoever wins that fight probably wins the game.
The last 5 overs — where nerves take over:
- Khurram Shahzad is Zalmi's best bowler in the final overs. He bowls very accurate yorkers at the base of the stumps really hard to score off. Aaron Hardie also bowls smart slower balls that can fool batters who are trying to hit big.
- Hunain Shah showed in Eliminator 2 that he is ice cold under pressure defending 6 off the last over and taking a wicket. But that was one game. Can he do it again in a final, with 27,000 people watching? That is the question only tonight can answer.
Two captains — two completely different styles
Babar Azam
Babar does not talk much. He just goes out and scores. His captaincy is quiet and confident. Watching him bat honestly makes you feel relaxed he looks so comfortable, even in the most difficult situations. His 103 in the Qualifier was a perfect example of that.
Marnus Labuschagne
Marnus is the opposite of Babar loud, aggressive, always trying something unexpected. He changes his bowlers fast, sets creative fields, and backs his players even when the game looks difficult. Honestly, what he has done with this team this season is remarkable. But in a final, experience matters and that advantage belongs to Babar.
Fantasy cricket picks for tonight
Babar Azam — must pick #1
Best batter in the tournament. In great form. Playing a final at his home ground. There is no safer pick in fantasy cricket tonight.
Kusal Mendis — must pick #2
The most impactful batter of the whole PSL 2026 season. If he gets going in the powerplay, Zalmi will post a huge total. Always pick him.
Sufiyan Muqeem — must pick #3
Best bowler of PSL 2026. He will get wickets in the middle overs tonight. Even on a flat pitch, nobody is really handling him well this season.
Hunain Shah — the surprise pick
Most people will not pick him. But if he bowls a match-winning last over again tonight and wins Player of the Match your fantasy team will go right to the top. Low risk, high reward.
My final prediction — straight and honest
Look, I will be totally straight with you. Peshawar Zalmi are the clear favourites tonight. They have the best batter in the tournament. The best bowler. The most experienced squad. They have been to finals before and they know how to handle the big occasion. Everything points to them.
But and this is a big but Hyderabad are not scared of anything. A team that was 0 wins and 4 losses and still made it to the final does not get scared by anything. Glenn Maxwell can win a game by himself in one over. Hunain Shah gets better when the pressure goes up. And they have the best momentum of any team right now.
My gut says this: if Zalmi bat first and post 190, Muqeem will choke Hyderabad in the middle overs and Zalmi win by 15 to 20 runs. But if Hyderabad win the toss, bowl first, and Maxwell hits a big fifty then we might be watching the greatest upset in PSL history. Both results are very possible. That is what makes this so exciting. Do not miss this game. I promise you it will be worth every minute.
